Why take this course?

This advanced level course will build on your existing knowledge, and ensure that you are well-equipped to move on to a university degree or employment. By the end of the course you will be able to demonstrate the skills needed to effectively manage and make important decisions in an accounting work environment.

What you will experience

At first you will develop skills in recording financial information and preparing final accounts, as well as cost and management accounting. You will also study business law, maths and managing people. You will then build on this knowledge in Year 2, when you will focus on specialist skills in statistics for business, financial reporting and analysis, income tax and management accountancy.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have two Higher qualifications at grade C or above, preferably in English and one other subject. Applicants should also have a National 5, Intermediate 2 or Standard Grade Credit level qualification (at a minimum) in Maths.

A Foundation Apprenticeship in any subject area will be considered equivalent as one unrelated Higher for entry to this course. A Foundation Apprenticeship in Accountancy will be considered as equivalent of two Highers for entry to this course – no further Higher qualifications will be required. A Foundation Apprenticeship in Business Skills will be considered equivalent to a subject related Higher. The additional Higher required for entry does not require to be subject related.

Those who have previously completed the NCGA Business course are also encouraged to apply.
