IAB Award in
Broadly comparable to SCQF Level 4
Begin your studies of manual bookkeeping and gain an entry level qualification.
Why take this course?
The IAB Level 1 Award in Manual Bookkeeping (QCF) is broadly comparable to SCQF Level 4 in Scotland and will provide you with essential book keeping skills. The course is accredited by the International Association of Book Keepers (IAB) and covers double entry or manual book keeping systems, serving as a valuable introduction to the practical elements of financial record keeping. The course is aimed at those who wish to begin their studies of bookkeeping, from a point of no previous knowledge or experience. It is also suitable for those who have some bookkeeping knowledge and skills and want to formalise their competence by gaining a recognised accredited qualification in bookkeeping. It could be used as a foundation for learners considering a career change, training to become a self-employed practitioner or small business owners wanting an introduction to the function of bookkeeping with a view of keeping financial records for their business.
What you will experience
You will learn how to assess your competence in carrying out a range of basic day-to-day bookkeeping routines and activities using a single entry manual bookkeeping system. This includes recording business transactions, using the journal, preparing a trial balance, petty cash and bank reconciliations as well as developing an understanding of the basics of VAT.
This course will require you to manage your workload independently, with a basic level of tutor support.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However it is recommended that prospective candidates will already have basic skills in both numeracy and literacy prior to embarking on a course of study for this qualification.
What you will need
The knowledge test and assignments for this course are provided online so students will need internet access and IT equipment to complete the course. Alternatively, a time slot can be booked at our assessment centre.
What you need to know
Please note that your registration fee, student membership for 1 year, certification costs and IAB assessment fees are included (excluding re-sits).
To successfully complete the qualification you must pass three assessments. The first is an online knowledge test which is a series of independent short answer questions made up of multiple choice, gap fill, and true or false type questions. There are also two assignments to complete which take the form of short case study type questions with several tasks for each case study. All of the assessments are open book which means they can be taken at home or you can book a time slot at our assessment centre.
