Why take this course?
This introductory course covers the basics of commercial accounting software to set up a computerised accounting system, process business transactions and produce reports.
What you will experience
The course is accredited by the International Association of Book Keepers (IAB) and covers:
Introduction to computerised accounting (D/508/5836)
Understand the basics of computerised accounting, accounting terms, recognise source documents and understand the basics of the VAT system
Set up a computerised accounting system and process data (Y/508/5849)
Set up a computerised accounting system, Process credit based transactions, cash sales and sundry income. Process receipts from credit customers and payments to credit suppliers. Process payments through the bank current account, petty cash transactions and Bank Reconciliations.
This course broadly comparable to SCQF Level 4 in Scotland.
This course will require you to manage your workload independently, with a basic level of tutor support.
It is recommended that candidates have basic skills in both numeracy and IT literacy for this course. It is also recommended that prospective candidates first develop their skills by undertaking the IAB Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping.
What you will need
The preparatory work, assignment and knowledge test for this course are provided online so students will need internet access and IT equipment to complete the course. Alternatively, assessments can be taken at our assessment centre.
The software used on this course is Sage Line 50. Online access to the software is provided to students.
What you need to know
Your registration fee, student membership for 1 year, certification costs and IAB assessment fees are included (excluding re-sits).
To successfully complete the qualification you must pass two assessments. The first is an online knowledge test which is a series of independent short answer questions made up of multiple choice, gap fill, and true or false type questions.
The online assignment takes the form of a short case study with a variety of tasks for each case study. Both assessments are open book which means they can be taken at home or you can book a time slot at our assessment centre.
