Why take this course?
This course is aimed at those who want to pursue a career in social care or social work. It enables students to integrate knowledge, theory and practice to effectively pursue employment in a social care role, or to progress to further study at university degree level.
What you will experience
On this course you will explore several important topics when it comes to working in social services. You will complete a Graded Unit, and learn about the safeguarding and wellbeing of individuals, social policy, leadership, care practice and personalisation of practice.
Psychology and sociology are significant throughout course. You will cover three mandatory SVQ Units, and continually develop essential skills in team working within a care setting.
Applicants should have two Higher qualifications at Grade C or above (including English). Alternatively applicants should have a relevant qualification at SCQF Level 6, e.g. NC Health & Social Care, with associated Highers.
A Foundation Apprenticeship in any subject area will be considered equivalent as one unrelated Higher for entry to this course.
Applicants should have completed a minimum of 80 hours work or voluntary experience within a social care setting. A genuine interest in working with people and good communication skills are essential, and references may be required.
A clear disclosure or ability to gain membership of the PVG scheme in respect of Regulated Work with Children will be required prior to placement allocation. Please note that your membership will be organised by the College.
English language requirements
If English is not your first language, we will ask you to provide evidence of your English language skills as part of the application process. For this particular course, the English language requirements are:
- A C1 score is required for the College English Language test in all four disciplines (writing, reading, speaking and listening).
- A minimum of 180 is required in the Cambridge English: First exam. A minimum of 180 is required in the Cambridge English: Advanced exam.
- A score of 6.5 is required for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in all four disciplines (writing, reading, speaking and listening).
