SCQF Level 4
This non-advanced level course is suited to those who wish to pursue a career in childcare.
Why take this course?
This course provides students with a good base knowledge of the early education and childcare sectors. It provides an opportunity for students to develop their soft skills and interpersonal skills in a childcare context, whilst providing the opportunity to investigate a range of job roles and career opportunities.
What you will experience
On this course you will cover a range of important topics including child development, maintaining a safe environment, accident and emergency procedures and preparing for parenthood. You will also develop important skills in literacy, numeracy and IT.
The course also incorporates National 4 Care and National 4 Skills for Work Early Education & Childcare qualifications.
Applicants should have three National 4, Intermediate 1 or General level Standard Grade qualifications, ideally including English.
Other qualifications and experience may be taken into account, however the ability to work at SCQF level 4 is essential. A genuine aptitude for working with people is very important for all applicants.
English language requirements
If English is not your first language, we will ask you to provide evidence of your English language skills as part of the application process. For this particular course, the English language requirements are:
- A strong B1 score is required for the College English Language test in all four disciplines (writing, reading, speaking and listening).
- A minimum of 153 is required in the Cambridge English: Preliminary exam.
- A score of 4.5 and higher is required for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in all four disciplines (writing, reading, speaking and listening).
