This course will develop your basic engineering knowledge by delivering a detailed introduction to specific engineering subjects.
Why take this course?
This course will develop your theoretical knowledge of engineering by delivering a detailed introduction to mechanical engineering subjects. It is designed to heighten your understanding to the standard required for a National Certificate Group Award. This qualification will enable you to progress to a Higher National course or into employment.
What you will experience
This course covers fundamental skills whilst focusing on more specific areas of mechanical engineering. Subjects include:
- Graphical Communication
- Hydraulics and Pneumatics
- Strength of Materials
Applicants should have an NC qualification at SCQF Level 5 and both Maths Craft 1 and Maths Craft 2 units. Alternatively, applicants must have National 5 Maths at Grade A or B, Standard Grade Maths at Credit level, or Intermediate 2 Maths including units 1, 2 and 3.

If you choose to complete the HND course after completing your NC, you may want to then consider moving on to a university degree. Depending on the university, you could enter in to year 2 or year 3 of a related course.
