This course will build on your current abilities and strengths, encouraging you to work more independently as a hairdresser.
Why take this course?
This course is aimed at those who have been successful in VRQ Level 1 Diploma in an Introduction to the Hair & Beauty Sector (Hair Route) and/or have been working in the industry for around 2 years and are looking to accredit their skills and knowledge.
The course will develop your understanding, and provide progression opportunities for those who want to progress to the Level 3 Diploma, or those who wish to pursue a supervisory or technical employment role.
What you will experience
You will develop practical skills in consultation, shampooing, conditioning and scalp massage. Basic styling, cutting, colouring, lightening and perming techniques are the main focus on the course, with opportunities to develop your creative skills.
Promoting and selling a variety of products and services, alongside reception duties and the importance of health and safety, will also be covered. These skills will prepare you for work experience and progression to further study or employment.
Applicants should have achieved the VRQ Level 1 Diploma in an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector (Hair Route) qualification or a similar award. Applicants should also have a minimum of three National 5, Intermediate 2 or Standard Grade qualifications, or appropriate life/work experience.
Good communication skills, a willingness to learn new practical skills and confidence in working with the public are essential qualities. Essential skills will be developed throughout the course.
