Why take this course?
Applied sciences are used in almost all industries, from health services and pharmaceuticals to food, drink and energy. This wide-ranging, advanced level course covers theoretical and practical aspects of biological and chemical sciences. A large amount of hands-on training is involved, giving you a chance to put theory into practice and develop valuable skills in experimentation, analytical testing and modern instrumentation.
What you will experience
This course will strengthen your existing knowledge through in-depth study of a variety of key scientific areas centred around organic, inorganic and physical chemistry, biology, biochemistry, physiology microbiology and analytical science. As well as giving you an in-depth knowledge of both chemistry and biology, the course will also give you the opportunity to specialise in particular aspects, for example human metabolism or advanced chemistry.
Applicants should have Higher qualifications in Chemistry and Biology/Human Biology, or a Higher in one of these subjects and a National 5 (at a minimum of grade B) or equivalent in the other. Maths at National 5 (Grade C) or equivalent is also required.
A Foundation Apprenticeship in any subject area will be considered equivalent as one unrelated Higher for entry to this course.
Alternatively, applicants should have successfully completed the NC Applied Sciences SCQF Level 6 course at Grade B or above.
